About Masa (Masakazu Nishimine)

Born 1954 in Kochi, Japan.

1978 Degree at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo

1988 Percussion degree at the Universtiy of the Arts in Bremen with “excellent ”

Leader of the percussion ensemble Bremen (1988 – 1999)

Guest lecturer at the University of Arts Bremen and guest professor at the Kyoto City University of Arts in Japan

After numerous performances as concert percussionist in Europe Masakazu Nishimine discovered the traditional Japanese Drum when playing Japanese compositions. Since then he has been passionate about Japanese Drumming and in 1996 he founded “Masa-Daiko” with the goal of spreading and teaching the art of the Japanese Drums in Europe.

Masakazu Nishimine is in close contact with Japanese Taiko groups and Taiko players and discusses with Japanese experts like Mr Asano (drum manufacturer), Mr Hidano (Taiko solist) and Mr Art Lee (Taiko solist) about Taiko.
